some needle poking

Last night was a crazy night to say the least, but the anxiety of never experiencing it is over with. My class of 2nd year dental hygienists is back to school a few weeks early to practice giving injections. We have class for 2 weeks, for 4 hours a night. Then we get a much needed week off and then school really starts.

Last night was our first night of injections and everybody was pretty nervous. I am already terrified of needles so I was anxious to be the patient, but my partner did a fantastic job and it was quite atraumatic. We only did maxillary (upper teeth) injections and when she did the front teeth it was so weird because I could feel it on the side of my nose (at first it felt like she was pressing her finger there) and then I started to feel it go up my face, but we hardly injected anything so the feeling only lasted a second. It was so weird to me.

Mine didn't go as smoothly. With the first injection I did there was a few obstacles I had to overcome and it freaked me out a little bit, but I did it and it wasn't too bad. So now I have officially done an injection on someone! Tonight we do mandibular (lower teeth) and tomorrow is the palate (ugh).
